dinner and a dumpster

well it took just shy of six months, but tonight was my first real failure in wife-like adventures in the kitchen. i've made orange chicken, pico de gallo, sloppy joes, green chile chicken tacos, margherita pizza, & plenty other meals. all successes according to mr. dtf {and me!}. BUT tonight i attempted something crazy... chicken pot pie.

some of you are probably rofl-ing at me right now because you grew up eating pot pies & they really aren't all that difficult, but my problem wasn't in producing a pot pie. my pot pie LOOKED perfect. i suppose it even TASTED the way it was supposed to. no, my problem was not in pot pie production but simply that mr. dtf & i discovered tonight that we do not LIKE chicken pot pie. we do not like it one bit. so three-quarters of that pot pie are now in the dumpster out back. & we are terrible little food wasters.

oh well. you can't win em all.

what are your favorite meals? i am in need of some kitchen inspiration stat. otherwise me & the mr. are so headed to panda some healthy restaurant for dinner tomorrow. ha.

love,
mrs. dtf

i'm gonna pretend it's february

january is pretty lame & february may or may not be it's definitely my favorite month of the year. so forget the fact that it's january 29th. to me, february has already begun.

this month...
1. mr. dtf & i will celebrate our six month anniversary! because we do that.
2. we will also celebrate our first married valentine's day! extra special.
3. i am celebrating my golden birthday & my 21st! best birthday ever, am i right?

but you guys, i also just love february in general. it is filled with pretty hearts & kind words & LOVE. i will probably watch a sickening amount of chick flicks. do a sickening amount of valentine's day crafts i found on pinterest. & our bank account might be a little lacking by the first of march! don't worry, it's cool. & worth it.

to start off my month of love i will finally be accepting some long overdue liebster awards! i am a bad blogger & was nominated a few weeks ago & am just now making the time to post about it! i swear i am not ungrateful. just busy. anyway... these liebsters came from two really sweet girls, eliesa from good day, sunshine & carlie from the duplechin daily

so what is a liebster? because when i first saw that my first thought was, "should i be offended right now?" but you guys it just means they love my blog! which is so flattering :) thanks ladies!

NOW i getta pick my 5 faves {with less than 200 followers... a rule of the award}
1. jennie moss of JENNIE MOSS DESIGN.
2. sherri of SHERRIAMOUR.
4.
5.

okay so i only picked three, but that's just cause i love these guys & i want you all to show them lots'o'love for me. & tell them mrs. dtf sent you! DO IT.

happy month of love everyone!

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. look for my new sponsors on wednesday! & a new feature by the end of the week... girl scout's honor!

peace love lauren

peacelovelauren
OH HEYY!
i'm thrilled to be a guest of sweet Mrs. DTF's today! i am lauren of peace love lauren, where i blog about my life with my husband, Travis, and our experience with the married student life. we live in a tiny college town in idaho where i am studying interior design. today i'd love to share a few of my favorite decorating staples to make your homes {and in my case, teeny tiny apartment} be even more fabulous!
decorating tips

1. a dash of black and white

blackandwhite
sticking to a color scheme is very important when decorating a space. however, if everything in the room is yellow, green and blue...things can get boring FAST. black & white can be incorporated into literally every space, to add interest and break up the monotony.

2. every room needs bling.

bling
bling. it's probably my favorite trend from 2011, i hope & pray it lasts for all of 2012. whether it be an office chair, a pillow on the couch or a chandelier, it will simply make you feel better to know that your home is filled with sparkly, shiny accessories for your ADHD guests to be distracted by.

3. celebrate life

flowers
every room needs something living; flowers, goldfish, a pet. even photographs that capture your favorite memories. by incorporating these things in your decor it's possible to celebrate life in every room!

4. repetition is a powerful thing.

repetition
the mind clings to things that are familiar, which is why repetition has such a pleasing effect on the eye. so, get a set of matching lamps or acquire a series of paintings. make a gallery wall and paint all of the frames black, or use the same fabric for curtains and for a few pillowcases. the possibilities are endless.

5. fill your home with things you make.

make
whether it be this DIY sunburst mirror, or a DIY painted rug, it is a beautiful thing to fill your home with one-of-a-kind pieces made by you! what better way is there to make your home YOUR home!!

come visit me at peace love lauren!

celebrate life? i die.
i am literally gonna go buy flowers and goldfish
for every room in my tiny apartment now.

thanks lauren!

leaving my mark

Hey there!
I'm Kodi

and I blog over at Leaving My Mark

I'm a 19 year old girl just trying to find my place in this world. I love my family, my dogs and tattoos. I'm a Texas girl, so you'll see I have my southern manners but sometimes I have my Daddy's potty mouth. I enjoy planning weddings on Pinterest and collecting recipes for food I will never cook. I constantly use the work definitely, even though there is no way I'd be able to spell it with out the help of spell check.

I'm also an organization freak even though you could never tell by the time I went home.

Oh, and I'm an obsessive reader of blogs.

And I took this obsession and made my own little bloggie blog.

Yep, that's it.
I know you love my neverusedphotoshopever banner.

Now you're wondering, why did she pick "Leaving My Mark'' as the title of her blog?
Becauseeeeeeeee my blog is exactly that. I feel that my blog is my chance to leave my mark on the world. It's my way to share my daily thoughts on things going on around me.

Now we get to the question, what do I blog about?
Hmm, can I say everything?
I blog mostly about my dogs, cause they're the cutest.
I blog about other blogs, because everybody loves a little shout out!
Sometimes you'll hear about what I believe.
And you'll see a lot of doodie that I find on Pinterest.

That was some introduction, huh?

Now on to what I'm really here to talk about...
If you're an avid TOMS wearer like I would like to be, you will know what I'm talking about when I say
Spring 2012.

Can you guess?

Correct!
TOMS will introduce their newest collection, TOMS flats this spring!
And you can bet you're sweet little fanny that I'm going to own these

And all of these.

What do you think about this line?
Are you as obsessed as me or just totally over the hoopla?

And last but not least,

Thank you Mrs. dtf for letting me talk to all of you're wonderful readers, and thank you wonderful readers for listening to me talk all about myself.

-k-

nine steaks and a kebab or two

many of you know that this past christmas was the first i ever spent away from my family. my mom was bummed that we didn't get to all be together over christmas so she gave us $100 in gift cards to texas roadhouse and ordered us to get our acts together and have a family steak dinner at some point.

well, friday night was THE night. i brought the hubs, my brothers brought their girlfriends, and my sister was a trooper and played seventh wheel.

everyone ordered the 8 oz sirloin except jake {seen above on the far right} who opted for the steak kebab with peppers. our food came and three of our steaks were overcooked then while we waited for new ones jake discovered a sticker on one of his peppers {those little stickers on fruits and veggies- you know the ones}. so... when the waitress came back jake told her about the sticker and as he showed her he threw in, "i'm not that picky, but i might have eaten like six already..." we all got a good laugh and he got $5 taken off the check and another steak kebab meal out of it for free.

needless to say it was a fun-filled evening. it always is when the jones fam gets together.

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. stick around because i have guest posts lined up from some of my amazing sponsors for this week! and i got new shoes i have to show you all ha!

oh the irony of death

so the other day i'm driving on the freeway in the far left lane when a big truck pulls up on my right and starts driving the exact same speed as me. i tense up, grip the wheel tighter, my palms sweat, and i am paying a particularly inordinate amount of attention to the divider. do you know the kind of panic i am talking about? when you are trapped in a metal death machine with no way out and you just can't go fast enough to escape it?

well that's when i realized it was a coke truck next to me and i thought... this would be the way i go. diet coke can in the cup holder and all.

that is all. happy thursday.

mrs. dtf

it's-a-me, mario

tonight i thought i'd try my hand at margherita pizza. overall, i'd rate my pizza a B+ and the learning experience as quite excellent indeed. i'd give you a recipe or detailed instructions, but basically i decided to wing it. olive oil, cherry tomatoes*, garlic, basil, salt, pepper, cheese, and pizza dough- the rest is just faking it slash learning for the next time!

here is what i learned:
1. MORE tomatoes.
2. don't marinate the tomatoes for an hour and a half. not only is this lengthy overkill, but it also drowns out a lot of the tang of the tomatoes. fifteen minutes to a half hour MAX next time.
3. more salt. maybe i'll use fancy sea salt or something next time. i'll be all chef-like with my special salt.
4. don't burn it! to some this may seem obvious, but what i really mean is watch it like a hawk. one minute it was all bubbly and ALMOST perfectly cooked and the next minute it was a dark shade of brown. {good thing mr. dtf likes burnt food? ha.}

in other news, the bangs/no bangs thing is still up in the air so feel free to weigh in if you haven't already!

ALSO, some of you may remember that one time i said i would do a q&a post when i reached 100 followers. well, 100 followers came and went surprisingly fast and i'm sure some of you thought i was just being lazy, BUT the truth is not a single one of you asked me anything ha. so... IF anyone is interested in getting all their little random questions about me answered feel free to ask me your questions via comment/email/facebook/smoke signal. if not, i'll try to only cry a little. kidding? ish?

love,
mrs. dtf

*at first i typed that "cheery" tomatoes which i think is pretty cute.

sweater weather

{wearing: top/jeggings- express, tunic/layered necklace- nordstrom, cardigan- uo, necklace- f21, shoes- anthro}

if someone would've told me two months ago that i could wear peep toe heels in the middle of january without crying i would've told them they didn't know diddly squat about winter in pootah. but alas, here it is, the middle of january & i did exactly that & i didn't even need a coat! the snow is nowhere to be found & either the big guy upstairs is playing a horrible trick on me & it's gonna be a blizzard february-september or i've been granted my biggest weather wish of all time. i'll choose to believe the latter for now...

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. i am having a hair crisis... as you can see my bangs are becoming side swept bangs soon to be no bangs at all. so what do you think? cut em or grow em out? & can i still be a hipster wife without my zooey bangs?

mlk, gotta love him!

so i was gonna wake up at the crack of dawn to share the good news with you, but then me and mr. dtf realized that we are young and wild and went on a late night taco run and watched mad men till i nearly passed out on our baby couch. so it is noon and i am still in bed. writing this post. BUT that is beside the point because i have that big news to share with you! I AM GENTRI'S BLOG OF THE WEEK!

you guys gentri is like the cool older girl you know growing up who wears makeup and when she tells you you look cute one day you start to wear that outfit once a week AT LEAST. so basically in blog life she told me i looked cute today and now i'm all blushing and rambling on because she is my make-up-wearing cool blogger girl that i secretly aspire to be.

on that note... let me tell you about my fabulous three day weekend.

{photo cred goes to my hawt little sis, kiley}

on friday, kiley took me and mr. dtf to lunch on campus with her glorified freshman meal card. we had some much needed burgers and {as you can see} i let kiley try out my new camera. then we went back to our apartment and kiley and i talked with our mommy on speakerphone while mr. dtf did bike stuff {shocker, am i right?}. my mom {who always told me to play hard to get} told kiley she had better be more aggressive in her dating strategies. ha. kiley was a little offended at first, but i assured her that i only got the more flattering advice because mom thought i was always a little too "friendly". gotta love mom.

saturday was less eventful. mr. dtf played bike polo and that night we both went babysitting. sunday, on the other hand, was the most perfect of days. we went to church, had chicken-black bean-&pico de gallo quesadillas, went on a bike ride along the river, then watched a bajillion episodes of mad men before our late night taco run and a little more mad men.

today mr. is getting his haircut at a bonafide old-school barber {pictures to come} then we are going to lunch before he has to go to stinky work.

how have you guys spent the lovely weekend? i need inspiration for our next day off in just a few short weeks {thank you mr, lincoln}!

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. if you're here from gentri lee, or just found me all on your own and are new here, WELCOME.
p.p.s. i love i love i love you. #mr. darcy
p.p.p.s. i gave kiley some of my baked potato soup leftovers and she LOVED it! score one for the big dog {me}.

the best smelling pick-me-up i know

so earlier today i'm sitting at home watching old episodes of one tree hill when the doorbell rings. i'm thinking, ::well i'm dressed... might as well answer it:: and ::it's probably some neighbor i don't know coming to borrow a cup of flour:: sooo... i get off my lazy behind and answer the door. standing outside is a young college-age male holding a beautiful flower arrangement with pretty pink roses and a cheery yellow ribbon. now i'm thinking ::hold up, i am a married woman:: and ::oh boy do i hope those are meant for me and not for my neighbor across the way:: and i stare at this young college-age male. he says that it's a delivery for me and that it should say who they're from on the card and i thank him and take the flowers and shut the door on him to go find out who they're from. i am mystified. i rip open the card {or rip it in half... oops!} to find that they are from the sweetest mother-in-law in the world. she sent me flowers cause i had a bad day  yesterday and she wanted to cheer me up... wait what? this is when i collapsed on the floor and cried. i am the luckiest girl in the world. and due to faulty genetics i cry a lot... {thanks mom!}

{wearing: thermal- f21, bow blouse- nordstrom, coat- guess, earrings- f21, bag- nordstrom}

flowers make everything better, don't they?

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. thank you so* much lori!
*please multiply by infinity.

my only friends

i'm kidding, kinda.

you guys today has been a magical day for blogging friendships. first of all, i'm being featured over at i'm leaving my mark. i'm one of kodi's january sponsors and couldn't be happier about it. so go check out the feature and stick around a while! second of all {grammatical correctness is for squares}, my newest follower tea gave me a little shout out on her blog, creating footprints, to help me reach 100 followers! how sweet is that? so i am returning the favor by commanding you all {i can do that right?} to go visit her blog and click that little baby follow button we all know and love.

happy wednesday. the week is half over wahoo!

bitter and badder

please excuse the curse word.
but i think this is funny.

i saw this little cartoon quite a long time ago, but remembered it today on the day of days. and when i say day of days i mean the worst day of days. because today the how i look is also how i feel. so now you're wondering what went wrong to make me feel so bleh and besides a few small things {forgetting to put the leftover soup in the fridge last night and getting pushed into a bush on my bike by a random stranger this morning} i honestly can't tell you. i feel like being bitter today. do you ever feel like that? i hope for your sake it's just another oddity of mine...

a day of lists

things to do:
1. make a calendar of all of my major assignments/tests for the semester. definitely almost missed a test last year because i didn't have it written down anywhere.
2. make a giant batch of baked potato soup. i bought the canned stuff a few weeks ago and it was no bueno. i had to add a bunch of cheese and pepper just to choke it down so this time i'm opting for the real stuff instead.
3. have something ready to eat (besides baked potato soup) for when mr. dtf gets home at 8:30 (because i'm not the only picky eater in our house).
4. brainstorm features for the blog. what are your favorites? i love we like wednesday from the awkward girls, bits + pieces from bleubird vintage, inspired by from rachel sayumi,  and blog of the week from gentri lee.

things i want:
{via}
{via}

things i'm looking forward to:
2.5.12. six month anniversary! i'm lame really cool and think it's a big deal and wanna celebrate!
2.14.12. valentine's day! and my first one being married! i love this day.
2.21.12. my golden 21st birthday! yipee!
ALSO... 100 followers! we are so close!

don't forget to ask me questions for the 100 follower q&a! ask me here, on facebook, or email me at mrsdtf {at} gmail {dot} com! ask me what my lucky number is! ask me if i wrap my hair in a towel after i shower? conditioner or 2-in-1? ANYTHING (almost).

mrs. dtf

a day at the market

mr. dtf and i returned from christmas break in portland on tuesday. we were welcomed by a fridge containing barbeque sauce, ketchup, salad dressing! yum. clearly a trip to the grocery store was in order and since i have resolved to be a better wife {cook more, clean more, love more} i decided to actually PLAN my meals and write out a grocery list of actual INGREDIENTS needed to make said meals! whoa. so here's my list...

mr. dtf came to help me shop {as always} because he is a good man/hubby. we got EVERYTHING except cilantro, mixed greens, and spinach. pretty impressive, am i right?

some other little bits&pieces from our lives as of late...

yes, those are THE glasses.
i was very good and didn't buy them...
and mr. dtf gave them to me for christmas :)

AND... mr. dtf fixed his old bike over break! WAHOO!

hope you all have a nice weekend and don't forget to comment or email me {mrsdtf@gmail.com} your questions for my 100 follower q&a post!

love,
mrs. dtf
