it's all blair waldorf up in here

well kinda...

{wearing: thermal- f21, top & sweater- uo, headband- jenniemoss}

so the baggy top and grandpa sweater aren't exactly blair's thing, but the headband SO is. and it made me feel like blair waldorf all day, which is the best.

my sweet little blogger friend, jennie moss, sent me this headband and a couple others {which are JUST as cute!} and i have thoroughly enjoyed wearing them. if YOU wanna look like blair too {or if you just want a pretty new headband- and who doesn't?} i highly recommend checking out jennie's etsy site because she has a ton of styles and they are all lovely.

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. thanks jennaynaynay. lub choo always.

for rainy days

NOTHING beats baked potato soup.

especially my adapted version of THIS recipe.

you need:
6 large potatoes peeled and cut into cubes
1 large onion chopped
1 quart chicken broth
3 cloves garlic minced
1/4 cup butter
2 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
AND
1 cup cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
3 tbs. chopped chives
1 cup sour cream
8 slices bacon cooked and crumbled

steps:
1. combine first set of {7} ingredients in crock pot.
2. cook on high for 3 hours {or low for 7}.
3. add cream, SOME cheese, SOME chives, SOME sour cream, and SOME bacon.
4. cook one more hour.
5. mash up the potatoes.
6. add the rest of the ingredients and mix saving some for the garnish.

this recipe may seem complicated, but it's really not. and you can technically just add the second set of ingredients all at the end. but i like the way i do it.

let me know if you try it out! i wanna hear how it goes :)

the four day birthday

my philosophy on holidays is that you should always make them last longer than they are "supposed to." this is ESPECIALLY true when it comes to birthdays. since my birthday was on a tuesday filled with school and work this year it was particularly easy to accomplish this goal. mr. dtf and i celebrated my 21st birthday by seeing a movie {the vow} on friday night and going out to dinner {tucano's} on saturday night. the movie wasn't amazing or anything, but it was worth watching and it was so nice to be inside a movie theater again! it had been far too long. dinner made mr. dtf and me both feel fat and happy and i even got to stop by cocoa bean on the way home for a birthday cupcake {yes, i made room somewhere in that cavernous stomach of mine for dessert}! overall, i'd say my birthday was a total and complete success and i can't wait to see what 21 holds in store for me :)

{wearing: blouse- birthday gift, cord leggings & clogs- anthro, earrings- nordstrom}

i told mr. dtf i wanted a few birthday pictures and he was perfectly happy about that when it was just me, but when i told him i wanted some of the two of us... things went downhill rill fast {ha^^^}.

hope you all had a lovely weekend!

i collapse

school. work. eat. homework. sleep.
school. work. eat. homework. sleep.
school. work. eat. homework. sleep.
school. work. eat. homework. sleep.
school. collapse.

over the course of the next week i have three midterms {that i know of} which probably means i have at least four... and i am struggling to fathom the idea that i am capable of completing all three of them with my new schedule. i guess we will just have to wait and see!

in other news, my lovely parents AND in-laws gave me p.f. changs gift cards. so basically i have big date night plans for tonight and tomorrow night ha. what are you guys up to this weekend?

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. mr. dtf is getting a big head about all those compliments you guys gave me about my birthday outfit. you are TOO kind ha.

my birthday suit

over the weekend i talked with my mom and we decided that february 21st was NOT going to be my birthday this year. february 21st was supposed to be a miserable day. it was meant to start with finishing my drive home from california. then homework through the night. then class all morning/afternoon. then work all night. then more homework. then collapse.

february 21st DID contain all of those things {minus the fact that i got a 2 hour nap in before class}, BUT it was also my birthday. i decided it could be my birthday when i came home to my wonderful husband, flowers, and a birthday gift at 2:30 a.m. the gift was a top and pants and they were both absolutely perfect {style AND fit}... so pretty much, mr. dtf did RILL good.

{wearing: top- lush via nordstrom, pants- joe's via nordstrom, bracelets- macy's, shoes- sam edelman via nordstrom}
...
my entire outfit was technically a gift. the top and pants from mr. dtf, the bracelets from my friend back home {gold for my golden birthday, cute right?}, and the shoes from a christmas return!

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes!
p.p.s. a few of you asked where these pictures were taken so i used the same spot! it's in front of the outside storage units for our apartment complex.

for president's day weekend i got to go home to danville {a town in the san francisco bay area} and be with my family {minus poor mr. dtf who couldn't miss school on friday}. we went into the city. my brother brock got engaged. my baby nephew bobby was blessed. there was a luncheon for BOTH of my brother's fiancees, anna and chelsea {they both got engaged within the last month er so}. AND we celebrated some birthdays. brock's birthday was on sunday and mine was yesterday! it was so nice to get to go home and see family, but i was glad to come home to mr. dtf after the long weekend and make up for some missed kisses and be with him on my actual birthday.

bringing home the bacon

so maybe i've spent the last few months completely unemployed...
it's all good because i finally got a job! er, mr. dtf got me a job. and i kept it!

mr. dtf is a tutor at a ranch for troubled youth. to be quite honest i was pretty jealous when he started working there because the job is right up my alley. fortunately, another tutor there got a new job and, thanks to mr. dtf quickly talking to his boss and giving me an awesome recommendation, his job is now mine!

i work monday-thursday from 3:30-8:00 WITH mr. dtf.

teaching teenagers isn't my ideal situation, BUT i am really enjoying it and it is great practice for my future teaching career. many of the kids have even pointed out that the maturity level of kids at the ranch is probably about equal to that of an elementary school age child ha.

love,
mrs. dtf

love and other stuff

some of you may be curious as to how two people who are truly and insanely in love with each other celebrate valentine's day. some of you may be especially curious as to how they would do so when they have school and work from 9am-8pm. well... here's how mr. dtf and i accomplished such a task.

i made my mommy's traditional valentine's day treat: HOGS & kisses {xo}. mr. dtf and i also spent the day leaving little love notes for each other. these ^^^ are my favorites. the one on the toilet was from me to mr. dtf: "you da best." mr. dtf left the other one conveniently in with my birth control: "hot mama!" i would've shared all of them with you guys, but mr. dtf left me a LOT of them {in the fridge, on my diet cokes, under the t.v. remote- he knows me so well!} and they got less appropriate and more ridiculous as the day went on. tell me that's not true love.

how did you lovelies spend the day?
i hope it was even better than your greatest fantasies.

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. mr. dtf also took me to p.f. changs over the weekend to celebrate early {he knows i have a thing for making holidays last as long as possible}. it's my favorite. and he is my other favorite. love him.

Hey hey! I'm Sherri and I blog over at SHERRIAMOUR.

me with my niece, Andi Elise

Best date: One night during the Christmas season we went ice-skating at a closed park rink { so we had to sneak in }. Then we built a fire and he brought a canteen of hot chocolate and we got to talk. It was simple, cute and fun...the best kind of date.

Hey guys! We're Lauren and Madison and we blog over at Awkward Girls!

Mrs. dtf asked us to share a love story. Well since there's two of us, and we're best friends and we love each other, we figured we'll tell the cute story of how WE met. It was a hot summer day on BYU campus. We were fresh. So fresh we were freshmen. It was a monday. But not an average kind of monday. It was the monday our lives changed forever. We had just moved into the dorms (Fun Fact: This was the summer Lauren and Mrs. DTF were roomies). We were sitting in the grass playing get to know you games, and while Mrs. DTF was flirtatiously throwing grass at boys, we started to chat. We realized we both live in very close, very similar Northern California towns, we laughed at all the same jokes, and talked about our love for Mary-Kate and Ashley movies. It was meant to be. A few weeks later we went 80's dancing... and have spent every waking minute together since then. We even started a blog together!
----------

Hi lovelies! I am Jennie Moss and I blog over here
this is me and my best friend, aaron, when we got married.

Aaron and I met eachother when we were pretty young. He was a freshman and I was a sophmore at BYU-Idaho. I met him September 25, 2006. We were placed in a group together for church and he and his roommates came over to meet us, and I was instantly intrigued. He sat in the corner saying things under his breath to make the boys around him crack up laughing, but I couldn't hear what he was saying. It drove me nuts because I wasn't able to hear him, so the next activity we had I went and sat right next to him so I could hear all the jokes. He was/is HILARIOUS. We talked and joked, and he asked me to be on his volleyball team. I was excited and everytime we had a game, aaron and I would walk together cracking jokes and secretly I developed the BIGGEST crush on him.

Hi ya'll! My name is Jessica and I blog over at jessica chronicled.

all you need is love

This picture is of me and my hubby Ryan. We are newlyweds and just got married in July 2011. His proposal was definitely awesome. He threw a surprise party for me by convincing me that his mom was throwing a Christmas party (we got engaged Dec. 4) - everyone else knew it was for me including the friends that jumped out after the surprise. We were playing a game together, and when it was my turn, he popped the question. It was so awesome to be surrounded by our closest family and friends at such an incredible moment. He had also made me a red velvet cake from scratch because he knows it's my favorite. He's definitely a keeper.
Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours. :)

Hey there lovelies, I'm Shane from Whispering Sweet Nothings.  This here is a picture of my beautiful mama and I.

I spotted him across the Driver's Ed classroom which we were forced to spend 24 hours in just to gain rights to that little piece of plastic signifying freedom.  That shaggy surfer cut, big brown eyes, and bronzed skin, he was perfect in my eyes.  At the time, I thought it would be a wise idea to pass him a note with my digits.  Unfortunately, it got passed right up to the 70-year old teacher.  Embarassing doesn't even begin to cover it.  To my delight, the one I had my eyes on found the whole ordeal adorable and asked me on a date by the end of the night, and we stayed together for two years.  Oh, young love.

Hello all you Mrs. DTF readers. I'm Katie and I blog over at according to katie. So glad to meet you!

.

I have now been dating my best guy for 2 years and some change & I can say that these have been some great years. It's great being in love. One thing I will never forget is the first time I heard that boy say "I love you". Kinda cliche but we were in my car overlooking the capitol in our hometown. Talking, kissing, star gazing. tmi? The best love is mushy gushy love. Anyway, mid-conversation he just looked at me and said, "I have fallen for you. Fallen in love with you". Made my stomach butterfly up, cheeks turn red, and smile go from ear to ear. Right then and there he became the best guy I know. I'm so glad he is that guy for me. Happy Valentine's day. I hope it is filled with love.

Hey Mrs DTF followers! I'm elizabeth over at Shenanigans. Mrs DTF was so nice to get me involved in the valentines love stories. Here's mine.

I saw my husband at the begging of fall semester 2007. I thought he was GORGEOUS. Tall. Dark. Handsome. I was completely smitten. Unfortunately, we never met but I would see him time to time and was in complete awe. One night my roommates had invited his roommates to go to the ice caves ( we were going to college in the middle of nowhere, Idaho. That was a regular Saturday night activity). I came to the apartment unaware of their plans that night and saw him sitting in my apartment. I quickly changed my plans I had to go with them. I devilishly got myself in the same carpool as him, and sitting next to him. We really talked talked talked the whole time. Our first date was 4 days later. He took me fishing and panning for gold. How's THAT for an Idaho date?

bike polo is neat!

but what is it?

just think prince harry and prince william...

but with bikes instead of horses!

according to wikipedia, bike polo is a game "in which teams of players ride bicycles and use mallets to strike a small ball into a goal."

bike polo may not be a huge sport yet, BUT it is getting more and more popular AND they have world championships which is neat!

the basic rules of the game are:
1) if a foot touches the ground you have to say "foot down" and tap out at the side of the middle of the court before continuing to play
2) a goal only counts if you hit the ball with the either end of your mallet and not with its side.
3) don't hit people with your mallet. it's bad form.

i guess i forgot a rule... ha.

if you'd like to know more i highly suggest reading this article. or just send me an email at mrsdtf {at} gmail {dot} com and i'll either attempt to answer it or have mr. dtf answer for me!

love,
mrs. dtf
