blogcation

what is a blogcation you might ask? well, it's when i decide that a) life right now is a little TOO mundane to be sharing with anyone who looks for some sort of joy out of their blog reading life, b) the only thing that has even somewhat inspired me in the past few days was my cheeseburger {the mcdouble from mcdonalds- it will change your life in the best way, and for only $1!}, and c) i've got bigger fish to fry {which really means i have some projects i promised myself would get done this summer which i haven't even started AND i need to come up with some amazing things to do with mr. dtf before summer gets all sneaky and ends before i even realized it started like it always seems to do}. HOPEFULLY this blogcation will mean lots of interesting stories and crafts and pretty pictures to share with you guys at some point... and well, here's to hoping.

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. i'll miss you little stinkers while i'm gone! have a lovely week. or two.

i'm thinking about changing my nanny profile picture to this...

i think it says, "LET ME WATCH YOUR CHILDREN."

dearest dad

thank you for being the best dance partner a girl could ask for. from our very first father-daughter dance in kindergarten when you let me dance on your feet, to the father-daughter dance at my wedding when you decided to be funny and "bust a move" in front of everyone, you have always known exactly how to be the most perfect dad for me. i am the luckiest to have you as my dad and i love you very very much.

love,
your not-all-that-little little girl

working hard

ladies and gentleman, after months {or rather a month and a half} of hardly working i have spent the last two days working FULL-TIME at my father-in-law's company. that's right, i am no longer sitting at home doing nothing! instead i am doing a lot of really exciting filing work AND i get to spend my lunch hour with mr. dtf who is interning there! which is neat! and granted it's only for two more days, but beggars can't be choosers amirite!

in other news, waking up at 6:30 a.m. and not getting home until 6:30 p.m. makes mrs. dtf a sleepy woman. and a bad blogger. so i apologize {though i have warned you...}. working women of the internet, i don't know HOW you do it! working full-time and blogging daily is TOO much! and those of you who do all that and the some {like BEING A MOM for example}, whoa.

that is all.
happy hump day.

love,
mrs. dtf

from the philosopher's mouth

i have this incredible philosophy on birthdays. and this philosophy is quite simple really. all birthdays should be dragged out as long as humanly possible. seeing as mr. dtf provided me with the absolute best first birthday as a married person, i decided i should probably attempt to do the same for him. and so last wednesday i began the birthday shenanigans.

 {day one: voodoo doughnuts and some car stuff he wanted}
 {a giant glazed for me and two grape doughnuts for him}
 {day two: a new v-neck from uo and his favorite daiquiri ice}
 {day three, his actual birthday: a little birthday note to wake up to}
 {and a few more presents from me and the fam}
 {this was the ONLY non-blurry present opening shot. he is like a little kid when presents are involved.}
 {and here's where i brag: chestnut brown desert boots IN HIS SIZE only $40 from uo! score!}
 {the aftermath}
 {day four: returned some presents, bought some new car parts, and ate some chipotle}
{day five: taught our first primary lesson, recuperated from the long week, and enjoyed some sweet potato fries. well, i did at least! recipe here.}

i hope you all had a lovely weekend as well. here's to making it to the next one!

love,

mr. fix-it

well, ladies and gentleman, it's official. mr. dtf is the handiest handy man ever. all i had to do was go buy some car parts and for a fraction of the price mr. dtf did the rest. he raised the car, removed the tires, climbed under it, and replaced our tie rods. and i don't even know what a tie rod is really, but without new ones i wouldn't have been able to get our fancy alignment done and have our car running smoothly and safe as can be.

hott, amirite?

love,
mrs. dtf

p.s. i know i have been a little absent from the blogging world, but mr. dtf's birthday is TOMORROW and i'm kinda freaking out slash trying to plan nice things for him! sorry!

grey skies

every day here in portland has been grey as of late.
so to brighten things up a bit i had to get creative.

{wearing: sweater- ann taylor, blouse- pins and needles, pants- joe's, flats- BØRN, brooch- it's actually an earring from nordstrom!}

some pinky red pants
with a chartreuse sweater
and a watercolored blouse.
...
because one bright color
just wasn't enough.
don't you agree?

love,

quite the surprise

last thursday night mr. dtf and i drove to utah with his family. every seat in the car was occupied and it looked to be a LONG trip to a place i don't much care for. i was lucky and slept through most of the trip {mostly just waking up for bathroom breaks} so it didn't seem so bad. still, as we got closer and closer to utah i couldn't help but feel the usual dread i associate with utah. utah and it's crazy weather. with the freezing winter and the snow in may and the burning hot summer. but then something weird happened.

mr. dtf took a turn driving just about the time we were entering utah. this placed me in the front passenger seat to take it all in. and you know what? as we drove into utah and the mountains came into view and i started to recognize city names... i felt at HOME. it was like this weird sense of relief washed over me. and it was confusing, but i just let it happen. cause i guess utah is home now. it is the only place mr. dtf and i have lived alone as a married couple. and it is where i have spent most of my time over the last three years. and it is my home.

i still intend to leave it scornfully behind one day, but i guess when that day comes there will be a sadness that comes with it. a sadness at leaving a place i once called home.

love,
mrs. dtf
